The Big Move

It has not been for lack of want, but a few things kept us from updating online so here’s a brief recap.  We closed on our new home and farm located in Ridgfield, Washington, on Feb. 7, 2011.  That weekend, we made our way up to Steve’s Greenhouses and scored . . . a greenhouse.  We spent the next three weekends building the greenhouse.  Then we moved in.  We were lucky enough to have a great neighbor open up our first acre, and soon thereafter, April Jones was kind enough to give it another pass and we called that good enough to get to work on the 2o11 growing season.  On the whole, we sit on just over 7 acres, about half in forest which slopes down to Gee Creek.  The other half has been cross-fenced into several “pastures” as the former owners kept cows and horses.  A small orchard of apples and pears sits up in our Northwest Corner and we rounded that out with the additions of peach, apricot, and plum trees.  After that, it was planting, tilling, weeding, harvesting, delivering seasonal herbs and veggies and then, repeat.  Our customers were patient and dedicated, our friends and family poured a ton of effort into helping and celebrating, and we’ve managed to make it to just about a year later, already looking forward to another great year.  There will be lots to do, and we will keep you much more up to date as to the happenings and developments of Red Truck Farm.
